A student who died in the STEM Highlands Ranch school shooting on Tuesday, May 7.
Kendrick Castillo, 18, was killed when the two students stormed into two classrooms and opened fire with handguns that were concealed in a guitar case.
According to CBS News, 18-year-old student Kendrick Castillo was killed in the shooting and eight others were hurt at STEM School Highlands Ranch in the afternoon. The active shooting started after the suspects — both students at the K-12 charter school — entered through the middle school entrance where there are no metal detectors. They used two handguns to injure and kill fellow schoolmates.
Castillo’s father told NBC News that his son lost his life in the attack.
The family declined to be interviewed Tuesday night, but a correspondent for Telemundo reported in Spanish that the young man “died as a hero, faced the gunmen … seeking to save the lives of his companions.”
Classmates said Castillo was among a group of three students who tried to take down one of the shooters by tackling them when they stormed the classroom.
