A 19-year-old waitress suffered a broken back and foot after she jumped off a Daytona Beach pier to save a child caught in a rip current.
Hanna Pignato,19,from Daytona Beach in the US state of Florida, broke bones in her back and foot after heroically jumped off a pier when she saw a young boy get into trouble.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports,Hanna Pignato said she was at work on the rooftop deck of Joe’s Crab Shack in Daytona Beach on Saturday when she saw a group of people in a panic before 8 p.m.
'She was screaming bloody Mary, like, just screaming, like, I could just hear the fear in her eyes,' Pignato told WESH 2 News about the moment. 'And I was scared. Everybody was scared.'
Pignato leapt off the Daytona Beach Pier to save the little boy. When she dove in, however, Pignato hit a sandbar, injuring her back and foot, according to WESH. The boy was rescued and taken to a local hospital, the station reported.
The GoFundMe page trying to raise $75,000 for Pignato states that the 19-year-old service worker does not have any insurance.
