A Florida man faces the death penalty after being convicted of murdering a 9-year-old girl.
Granville Ritchie is facing capital punishment for the rape and murder of 9-year-old Felecia Williams. Williams went missing in 2014 and was later found floating in the water near the Courtney Campbell Causeway inside of a suitcase.
Ritchie’s conviction comes five years after he raped and killed Felecia before stuffing her body in a suitcase and dropping it off of the Courtney Campbell Causeway bridge, according to the Tampa Bay Times, WTSP and Fox13.
In June, Ritchie's defense team came to court asking to suppress "emotional" testimony from the victim's family during the trial. The judge denied the request.
Jury selection for Granville’s trial will begin at 9 a.m., and could last most of the day. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
