Two women say the pair stole a handgun from an off-duty Boston police officer over the weekend.

Melissa Dacier, 22, and 25-year-old Neish Rivera were arrested on Saturday by Pawtucket police. They also managed to retrieve the officer's weapon, the Providence Journal reports.

According to police, the officer said he kept his weapon inside the glove box of his car, which he secured by a cable lock. He also told police he left the key to that lock in his cup holder.

Police arrested Rivera and Dacier just hours after the officer reported his gun was missing.

According to Boston police, the officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Police are not identifying the officer at this time.
