An AK-47 wielding gunman accused of shooting six of their officers and holding another two hostage on Wednesday.

The gunman who was identified by media as Maurice Hill, 36, was taken into custody after he walked out of the home with his hands in the air. Police have not confirmed the suspect's identity and charges have not been announced, according to FOX 29 reports.

All six officers wounded in the shooting have been released from the hospital. Another officer injured in a car crash on the way to the scene still remains hospitalized.

The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 3700 block of North 15th Street as officers were serving a narcotics warrant.

According to CBS 3, Hill, who has a lengthy history of gun convictions, was not injured during the standoff. Hill's lawyer Shaka Johnson said the suspect called him around 8.30pm.

"I'm a little angry about someone having all that weaponry and all that firepower, but we'll get to that another day,"  Mayor Jim Kenney said. "These officers need help, they need help. They need help with gun control. They need help keeping these weapons out of these people's hands. "

CBS3 reported, through sources, that the suspect was “live-streaming some of the shootout while he barricaded himself inside a building” and authorities were trying to shut it down. The video was not visible on his public Facebook page, however. Authorities had not confirmed this information. Social media reports indicated it derived from scanner traffic.

Temple University tweeted: “Lockdown is in effect for Health Sciences Center Campus. Seek shelter. Secure doors. Be silent. Be still. Police are responding.”

CNN reported that President Donald Trump was briefed on the shooting.
