A Tesla driver who was arrested for alleged DUI in Palo Alto early Friday morning had used the vehicle’s “Autopilot” feature.
Alexander Samek, 45, was arrested in Palo Alto early Friday morning at 3.37am in his grey Model S Tesla and was identified by Redwood City Police.
According to abc7news reports,The CHP spotted the gray Tesla Model S going nearly 70 miles per hour on the highway around 3:40 a.m. When the patrol car pulled up, the officer says the driver was slumped over and appeared to be asleep. Another officer eventually went in front of the vehicle and slowed it down to a stop just north of the Embarcadero Rd. exit.
When officers peered into the car, the driver was still passed out.
The officer who pulled him over said the driver appeared very drowsy and possibly sleeping, according to KTVU.
The driver was woken up and allegedly failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, according to ABC.
