A stabbing suspect stole a police SUV and crashed it into multiple vehicles, including a van carrying seven children, authorities said.
According to WHIO-TV reports,Investigators confirmed Penelope Jasko and Eleanor McBride were killed in the crash, moments after Penelope’s mother had picked them up following the first soccer game of their team’s season.
Penelope’s mother, Melissa Jasko, was at the wheel of her minivan, with six of her children and one of her sister’s kids seated behind her.
Police allege as she was pulling away from the curb outside the the library where they’d just dropped off a book, Raymond Walters Jr., in a stolen cop car, ran a red light, colliding with the minivan and another car.
Before the cruiser theft and deadly crash, Raymond Walters Jr. is suspected in the stabbing of his father in a black pickup truck on Xenia Avenue in Dayton on Monday evening, then crashing the truck on Airway Road in Riverside a short time later, authorities said.
At the truck crash scene, officers said he got into the Riverside police SUV and fled into Dayton, where he crashed into vehicles outside the Dayton Metro Library. Two 6-year-old children died in the crash, and 10 other people reportedly suffered injuries.
Jason Butts, who said he and Lloyd Walters are longtime friends, said Raymond Walters Jr. had used drugs since returning home. He also was at times delusional and talked about seeing demons, Butts said.
Walters was treated at an area hospital and is now in police custody.
Several others were left injured following the ordeal.
